This TENS unit consists of the electronics box, a set of wires as well as disposable sticky pads. In all simplicity, the use of the unit requires you to place the sticky pads in or around the area with pain. You will then choose from either the high frequency pulse which is above 50 Hertz but not a high enough power to cause muscular contractions, or the low frequency selection which is below 10 Hertz and causes muscle contractions.

When these electrical pulses run through your body, they cause the medulla and spinal cord to activate the mu-opioid receptors as well as release endorphins, analgesia and serotonin. When all of these combine, the result is a loss of the pain regardless of its cause. Furthermore, the electrical pulses act as a form of blockage preventing the signals of pain from reaching the brain and when these signals fail to reach the brain, there is no registration of any type of pain. However some people who have higher than normal pain thresholds may find that the use of a TENS unit will be useless.
